P/8a Horizon West Oil Field
In 2012, Van Dyke Energy Company acquired an interest in the P/8a Horizon West Oil Field, a discovery made by Mobil in 1982. Mobil’s three discovery wells and two appraisal wells confirmed the presence of an oil reservoir analogous to the P/9 Horizon oil field just four miles to the southeast. Characterized by a reservoir in tight, shaley Vlieland sand (Lower Cretaceous), P/8a Horizon West was never developed, and later dropped by Mobil.
In September 2015, Petrogas became operator for P/8a Horizon West, and as operator also of P/9 Horizon, plans to combine production of the two fields.
